Britain Government
Using the Internet: find two similarities and two differences between the government of Great Britain and the U.S.Th U.S government is headed by the President but he doesn't make decisions alone because of our checks and balances system. The Great Britian government is headed by the prime minister who makes many of the decisions and there is not veto system. Another difference is that our government is that our constitution is written down and we have documents of it. Great Britain on the other hand isn't fully written down, only some parts are actually documented.
A similarity between the two governments is that they both have an executive branch which holds the leader of the government. Another similarities is that both have different parties that disagree on certain issues within the government.
Also find two current events relating to the British government and provide a paragraph of reflection.
1. People who are high-earning non-European proffessionals will be exempt from an annual U.K. immigration cap. To be considered a high-earning proffessional they have to earn 150,000 pounds and scientists will also be included.
They are trying to reduce the number of immigrants, but still want to keep the ones that help out their country. I can understand this because here in the U.S. we educate people from different countries and then make them go back. If they are really smart and could help our country why not let them stay here.
2.The UK government is giving rights to gay couples to have their civil partnership ceremonies in places of worship. As of now they can't have their ceremonies in religious places and can't use religious references. They say that this is a step in the direction of equality in the UK. Now same-sex couples can only have civil partnerships and can't get married.
I think that they should be able to get married or whatever in churches just like straight couples. That is if the church agrees with their beliefs. I don't agree with same-sex marriage, but if some churches do agree then they should be able to have they civil parnership ceremony there.
